Nana’s Friday Night Flights September Menu
Calamari A La Romana, Rustique Bread, Foamy Mayonnaise
Leone, d’Almerita, IGT, Sicilia, 2008
(Leone, a fresh and aromatic wine that is straw yellow in color, but fruity in taste, offers a lovely aromatic bouquet of pink grapefruit, apple, white peach and pineapple. The acidity and the fruit balance out nicely.)
Spicy Lamb Bolognaise
Cavatelli Pasta, Basil
Valle Reale, Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, DOC, 2006
(A rich 100% Montepulciano d’Abruzzo made from the oldest estate vineyards, planted back in 1975 on soils rich in chalk, clay and pebbles. Valle Reale introduces the wine lover to a new breed of Montepulciano. Surprisingly concentrated with silky tannins and layers of dark berry fruit and spices, this is a rich and aromatic Montepulciano d’Abruzzo. It is full-bodied and firm, yet supple.)
Grilled Prime Flank Steak Skewer
Ciliegine Mozzarella, Olive Salad
Costera, Argiolas, Isola dei Nuraghi,IGT, 2008
(The intense, ruby red color of this wine tends toward orange with age. The full bouquet of sweet black cherry, pepper, and licorice is typical of the Cannonau grape. Warm and full-bodied on the palate with excellent texture, ripe fruit flavors and pleasant tannins. The juice is macerated with the skins for 13-15 days, and aged in French barriques for six months prior to bottling.)
