The Dallas Symphony Orchestra announces its 2010-2011 Season. Music Director Jaap van Zweden will lead 11 weeks of subscription performances in a season beginning September 9, 2010 to May 22, 2011 at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in the Dallas Arts District.
Highlights of the Texas Instruments Classical Series include world premieres of works by Stewart Copeland and Poul Ruders as well as five Dallas Symphony Orchestra premieres. Other classical events include the 2010 Dallas Symphony Orchestra AT&T Gala in September featuring pianist Lang Lang playing Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto with the DSO, led by van Zweden; a special performance of Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Project in March of 2011; the DSO’s summer residency in Vail, CO for the Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival in June and July; and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s first appearance (with van Zweden conducting) at Carnegie Hall as part of the Spring for Music Festival in May of 2011.
DSO Pop Series Special Guests
DSO’s new principal pops conductor, Marvin Hamlisch opens the Pops Series with a tribute to George Gershwin August 27-29, 2010. Also part of the Pops Series are performance by superstars Liza Minnelli, Jim Brickman and Chris Botti performing with the DSO, as well as Frankie Valli. A special Halloween concert featuring Alfred Hitchcock’s greatest films on a larger-than-life screen with the score performed live by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.
