So many social engagements, so little time...Weekends often pass us by and we miss out on so many of  the wonderful events going on in the DFW area.  This is your Weekend Planner.  I am highlighting a few events and activities happening  around town.  Thought you and your family would  enjoy some of these.  It is something for everyone.  Everything from happy hour martinis at Victory Tavern to Jazz Under the Stars at the Dallas Museum of Art and  Outdoor Adventures in Grapevine.

Get a head start on the weekend with a cool jazz concert under the stars at the Dallas Museum of Art. Bring a picnic and blanket or purchase food and beverages on-site. Your Summer nights will sizzle with the jazz series on Thursday evenings at the DMA. Kick off the 2010 season of Jazz Under the Stars with Grammy Award–winner Danilo Pérez and  his distinctive blend of Pan-American jazz.

Dallas Museum of Art |All Night Late Night & The Lens of Impressionism

Thursday,  May 20 – Closing Weekend Celebration. Events begin at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 21, and run through 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 22. to Sunday, May 23, 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m

Celebrate the closing weekend of The Lens of Impressionism with concerts, tours, family experiences, and artist demonstrations. Stay late for films, open mic, performances in the galleries, and Creativity Challenges.  The Museum will stay open round-the-clock, offering half-price ($8) exhibition tickets to The Lens of Impressionism and half-price ($5) parking in the Museum garage from midnight until 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning. Also starting at midnight, you can receive half-off any one item purchased in the exhibition stores. Some of the activities include:

Twitter Treasure Hunts

Follow @DallasMuseumArt or Twitter.com/DallasMuseumArt to find  clues for the DMA Twitter Treasure Hunt. Every hour beginning at 7:00 p.m., a cropped image of a work of art in the galleries will be sent out. The first person to find this work of art will win a prize.

French Films | Watch two of the most popular French movies ever made.

Au Revoir les Enfants (1987)  8:15 p.m., Horchow Auditorium

Based on director Louis Malle’s own childhood, this film tells the story of two boys (one who is Jewish and being hidden from Nazis) who become friends at a Catholic boarding school in the French countryside during World War II. This film is rated PG (101 minutes).

Amélie ( 2001)  10:30 p.m., Horchow Auditorium

Amélie is the charming story of an innocent and idealistic Parisian girl who decides to help those around her and, along the way, discovers love herself. Directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, this film was nominated for five Oscars. This film is rated R (121 minutes)

Little House on the Prairie | Dallas Summer Musicals

Dallas Summer Musicals May 11-23 at the Music Hall at Fair Park

Melissa Gilbert stars in the new musical based on the beloved Laura Ingalls Wilder series of classic American books. . Melissa Gilbert, who  played ‘Laura’ in the popular NBC TV series “Little House on the Prairie” during the 1970s, now continues her legacy ‘on the prairie’ by taking on the role of Ma.

Main Street Outdoor Adventure | Grapevine, TX

May 21 – 23

Discover the adventures waiting for you at Grapevine’s 26th Annual Main Street Outdoor Adventure festival, a fun-filled family event in Historic Downtown Grapevine.  Kick off your summer with a traditional Main Street Outdoor Adventure. Your family will enjoy the weekend’s events, including the gunfighters of the Old West, non-stop entertainment on five stages highlighting a variety of music from rock and R&B to bluegrass and country, and festival foods including funnel cakes and corn dog!

Main Street Outdoor Adventure will also include two wine pavilions featuring Grapevine and Texas wines. Then make your way to the Western Wine Experience where you can sip your way around the western region of the United States with a variety of wines from California, Washington and Oregon. High-quality beer sampling will be available to accompany those masterfully grilled food fares. Enjoy arts and crafts, exhilarating carnival rides, and short runs on the Main Street Outdoor Adventure Mini Excursions at the Grapevine Vintage Railroad.

Main Street Outdoor Adventure will open on Friday, May 21 at 10 a.m., and as an added bonus, admission is FREE to everyone until 5 p.m.! Hours are Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission prices are $7 for adults, and $5 for seniors (62+) and children (6-12). Weekend passes are available for $15 and souvenir weekend passes are $20. Admission is free for children five and under.
