Showcasing spectacular cultural, performing, visual and culinary arts, the seventh-annual CityArts Festival will move to historic Fair Park Friday, May 7 – Sunday, May 9. Free and open to the public, the community-based event will boast a diverse array of festivities for families and art aficionados to enjoy against the backdrop of Fair Park, a national landmark featuring the world’s largest collection of art deco exhibit buildings, art and sculpture.
CityArts Festival will feature musical entertainment, dance, and other performing arts on multiple stages. A Children’s Area will include arts and crafts, interactive activities and special entertainment. The Culinary Showcase will host local chef’s cooking demonstrations and samplings, along with wine pairings, wine tasting and mixing sessions. Throughout the weekend, guests will be able to enjoy “dancing water” shows choreographed to music at the Esplanade Fountains, which underwent a $12-million renovation in 2009.
Beginning in May 2010, ARTFEST will officially move into the CityArts Festival, doubling the size of the art show component and firmly establishing CityArts as Dallas’ premier arts festival. The always-popular juried Art MarketPlace, coordinated by The 500 Inc., will expand this year under the banner of ARTFEST at CityArts. For more than half of its 40-year existence, ARTFEST has taken place in Fair Park over Memorial Day weekend, attracting more than 200 visual artists from throughout the country and huge audiences of art aficionados.
