Spring Break is coming. The children will be home from school and you are looking for ways to keep them entertained and happy. It can be expensive to entertain your children during Spring Break, but we have found several free or low-cost events that your family will enjoy.

From educational events at local libraries and museums to outdoor activities like Dallas Blooms, Six Flags Over Texas and the Dallas Auto Show, you have a wide variety of things to do for Spring Break!

The State Fair of Texas-September 30 to October 23, 2011- Dallas’ Fair Park.

Get ready! The State Fair  is celebrating its 125th anniversary in 2011, and it’s going to be a birthday bash to remember.  All your old State Fair favorites will be back – corny dogs, the pig races, the Auto Show, and there will be plenty of new rides, musical acts and other attractions too.

Cirque Shanghai will feature a 22-member, Chinese acrobat troupe that will amaze you with their skills and feats. The Hall of State presents Texas!, an exhibit celebrating the history of Texas. The exhibit will include Davy Crockett’s pipe and pistol, Santa Anna’s spurs and vest and a life-sized replica of the Alamo.

Be there when Randy Travis, KC & the Sunshine Band and Finger Eleven perform on the Chevy Main Stage.  Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo, La Mafia and Hanson are just a few of the other acts that will be performing.

The Children’s Medical Center Barnyard, Farmer Mike the pumpkin carver, Birds of the World show, Illumination Sensation light display and the Texas Skyway aerial ride will all be back. And the food. Oh, the food! Along with Fletcher’s Corny Dogs, turkey legs and lemonade, there will be a smorgasbord of new fried treats to try.

Dinosaurs Unleashed at the Fort Worth Zoo

The original “kings of the jungle” have invaded the Fort Worth Zoo. Dinosaurs Unleashed, the Zoo’s new exhibit, features more than a dozen life-like, animatronic dinosaurs and runs until July 10, 2011. All the dinosaurs are native to Texas, and many were created specifically for display at the Fort Worth Zoo.

You and your family will come face-to-face with the sights and sounds of prehistoric animals and enjoy fun and educational information about each dinosaur.

The program gives families an opportunity to enjoy a family-friendly feature in a safe and warm environment.  Auditoriums are adjusted with lights a little brighter, sound a little softer and no one minds if audience members dance, sing, shout or walk about during the movie.  Families can feel relaxed and comfortable enjoying the movie experience together.
